HIROKO NAKAJIMA
Styling & Photography // Jodie Deakin, Model // Justina Aleksandraviciute
How did you first get introduced to fashion?
I moved to London 8 years ago to study fashion so then my journey started.
What does it mean to you to be a designer and who do you design for?
A magician? I design for all creative individuals. My work evolves from a philosphy of fashion as wearable art.
Where did you study and how important was that to you in the progress of your development as a designer?
I studied at Central Saint Martins on the MA course to develop my skills and how to visualize creative ideas.
Did you intern whilst studying and what did you learn whilst there?
I have worked as an intern in fashion labels and it helped me to get the idea of working in a team.
There is a clear connection in the construction of your collection with home furnishings what inspired you to take that path?
I like objects, especially everyday objects because they have the common recognitions so they are interesting enough to give a twist.
Is there any body in fashion you particularly look up to?
Simply people on the street because they are real.
What does the future hold for Hiroko Nakajima?
Opening a shop one day!
Lastly what are your five favourite places?
Artillery passage, fashion in the 20s, surrealists, old pubs and of course Tokyo where I'm from!
